Technology meets Function
The Progia STS is a revolutionary device born from groundbreaking research conducted at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, in collaboration with the Madison VA Hospital. This pioneering research reinforced that active rehabilitation of the swallowing musculature using isometric progressive resistive exercise for dysphagia treatment enhances swallowing safety while decreasing dysphagia severity.
Pairing this type of isometric progressive resistive exercise and the ability to fully customize the treatment program, and four precision sensors with a Speech Language Pathologist results in documentable improvements in swallow function for patients with dysphagia.
History of Progia Medical
Progia Medical is dedicated to helping individuals suffering from dysphagia by following our vision to create a culture that puts patients first. We believe in prioritizing our core values of safety, quality, efficacy and care with our team members and customers. Through these efforts we can accomplish our goal.
The technology was introduced to Co-Founder Ross Dunbar in 2022. Soon after a partnership with Gary Graham was established, and subsequently they formed Progia Medical in early 2023.
The STS™ is founded upon the groundbreaking research by Dr. JoAnne Robbins, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, former Prof. at the UW Madison, and Assoc. Dir. of the Geriatric Research and Educational and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the Veterans Hospital in Madison, established. JoAnne and her team were instrumental in assessing the relationship between tongue/lingual pressure and people’s ability to swallow.
